Summary: DNS Lookup seems to be failing

Lesson learned:

Indeed the DNS was not working. When you edit your /etc/defaultrouter file 
one must:

a.) route add default [IP ADDRESS]
b.) Or reboot the machine to get it to "read in" the file.
