SUMMARY: "unknown priority name *" in syslog.conf

... and the winners are: Jason Santos <jason.santos at megaslow.net> and 
Ric Anderson <RIC at Opus1.COM> 

Who both educated me (better than the man page did!) that

local2.debug    /var/adm/messages

will cause ALL messages to be logged ("debug" and higher priorities, 
"debug" is the lowest priority).

and that is what I wanted to do!
